CRVIS Honors 50 Volunteers at June
Recognition Event
I couldnt believe that CRVIS was coming to my school,"
remembered Angela Anable, principal of the Freeville Elementary
School at the third annual reception to recognize CRVIS (Cornell
Retirees Volunteering In Service) volunteers on June 10. Other speakers
provided more glowing comments to the audience of approximately
60 people who attended the ceremony held at Kendal of Ithaca. CRVIS
chairman Bill Paleen hosted the gathering.
This central recognition at Kendal was an opportunity for representatives to get together for fellowship and fun with refreshments and a door prize donated by Flower Fashions. Everyone received a special coffee mug imprinted with the CRVIS logo as a lasting souvenir. It was clear that CRVIS volunteers had made an impact on the students, teachers and principals of the Cayuga Heights, Enfield and Freeville elementary schools. The volunteers not only received thanks and small gifts made by the children to show their appreciation, but the volunteers received their own rewardsthe satisfaction of helping the childrenthe challenge of working in the schools and the feeling of being needed!
Certificates of appreciation signed by Cornell President Hunter Rawlings were awarded to all CRVIS volunteers.
In addition to this event, each of the schools planned a special celebration in their own area to honor each individual. CRVIS, open to anyone who wishes to help, offers retirees an opportunity to share experiences and make a difference in the lives of 5 to 12-year-olds.
