Staff and Labor Relations

Staff and Labor Relations, in the Division of Human Resources, provides consultation services to all university staff, college/administrative unit local human resource officers, supervisors, and managers. The office is responsible for the negotiation, interpretation and administration of the collective bargaining agreements in place at Cornell University, policy development and interpretation, administration of the staff complaint and grievance process, administration of the university's unemployment program, mediation and conflict resolution, consultations on layoffs, disciplinary actions, terminations, and other employee relations matters.

  • Labor Agreements   There are currently six (6) labor agreements. Staff and Labor Relations staff work with supervisors, employees represented by collective bargaining agents and union leadership in the day-to-day administration and interpretation of contracts.
  • Layoff Packets. Managers should contact Staff and Labor Relations or call 255-4652 to request the number of packets needed when the decision is made to lay off employees.
