QUEST Qualified University Employees Seeking Transfer) is a performance-based internal transfer assistance program designed to support the university in its efforts to develop and retain high quality staff by providing assistance to those who meet the program criteria in preparing for and identifying transfer opportunities at Cornell.
Purpose
· To develop and retain a high quality, diverse workforce
· To identify transfer opportunities at Cornell
· To assist staff in understanding requirements of positions of
interest
· To support staff in exploring and pursuing career mobility options
within Cornell
· To create plans to assist staff in developing skills
· To provide a central resource for internal employment information
and to answer questions
Who can use QUEST?
Eligibility is determined by the following criteria :
· You are a current Cornell University regular non-academic or
bargaining unit employee, full- or part-time.
· You have completed 12 months of continuous service in good standing
in your current position.
· You are a demonstrated high performer* in your current position.
High performance is demonstrated by an overall performance rating of "frequently
exceeds expectations/standards" or higher.
· You are not currently following a performance improvement plan
for your current position. You have not had a disciplinary action(s) within
six months.
· You must discuss your interest in transfer opportunities with
your current supervisor.
· A positive referral from your supervisor and local HR representative
regarding your performance is required.
· You meet the qualifications listed for the position on the job
posting for which you are interested in applying.
Employees on lay-off status who meet QUEST program criteria are eligible for QUEST services.
How does QUEST work?
The transfer consultant will help you in the following ways:
· Explore your employment interests, job search needs and career
goals through a personal, confidential consultation.
· Determine eligibility for program assistance by consulting with
your local HR representative and current supervisor to assess performance.
· Identify skills and abilities, matching them with appropriate
employment opportunities and position requirements.
· Provide support and advice on how to tailor your resume and cover
letter to fit the needs of positions you are interested in applying for.
· Assist you with job search techniques and practice interviews.
· Uncover job openings to fit your needs through networking.
· Establish and maintain networking and mentoring contacts and
facilitate the use of these contacts.
· Facilitate the internal application process by providing information
and support.
· Submit a QUEST identification letter in support of your application
for positions you apply for.
· Notify you of all efforts made by QUEST on your behalf.
· Obtain performance feedback and interview and job search feedback
on your efforts in the specific search and identify next steps for development.
· Offer access to a computer with internet connection, printer,
copier, and fax to assist in your job search (located at East Hill Plaza).
· Supply access to a Career Search Lending Library.
· Supply access to AIRS (Advanced
Internet Recruiting Strategies) .
