Establishing Pay Rates for New Hires and Internal Selections

Subject: Administering Wages and Salaries
Number: 6.7.4
Issued: 3/1/82
Revised: 6/30/98

Regular Staff Positions
Pay rates for new hires will be determined by the dean/vice-president or designee in accordance with the following guidelines:

A position's recruiting salary range is normally from the band recruitment minimum to a job-sensitve market reference point. The selected candidate's salary offer may be within this recruitment range and shall reflect the individual's experience and qualifications in comparison both to internal equity considerations and the position requirements. Colleges and units may establish internal control points for administering within this range. In unusual and documented circumstances, deans/vice-presidents may grant approval to the local hr representative or designee to hire a selected candidate beyond the band recruitment maximum.

For statutory college positions, such exceptions should be discussed with the local hr representative or designee responsible for reviewing statutory transactions, for review against State University of New York (SUNY) and State criteria.

Contact the local hr representative or designee or Compensation  Services in the Office of Human Resources for more information
