Business Travel Accident Insurance Plan

Purpose
This plan is designed to provide staff traveling on University business
with worldwide accidental death and dismemberment insurance.
Description
Coverage includes hazards that arise while engaged in travel on
official University business. All modes of travel are covered. Covered
travel does not include normal commuting activity.
Procedure
Upon employment all eligible staff are automatically covered. Claims to
the insurer are reported to the Department
of Risk Management and Insurance which reports all claims to the insurer.
Contact Risk Management in the event of a claim or for information.
Major Exclusions from Coverage :
- Flying in any aircraft owned or operated by the University or a private aircraft flown by a Cornell staff member, unless previously consented to in writing by the insurance company is excluded.
- Travel to and from work is not covered.
- Suicide or attempted suicide is not covered.
- Declared and undeclared war or an act of either is excluded.
- Coverage is not applicable when a staff member is a pilot or member of the crew of any vehicle or device for aerial navigation. Employee pilots are not covered while piloting any aircraft on University business.
Termination of Coverage
Coverage ceases upon termination of employment or appointment.
Amount of Insurance
The principal sum payable under the policy is $250,000.
Cost
The University assumes the cost for all premium payments.
