HIPAA Privacy Notice effective April 14, 2003

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires Cornell University, which operates self-funded health plans and a fully insured dental plan (collectively "the Health Plans") for its employees, to maintain the privacy of protected health information and to provide individuals with notice of its privacy practices with respect to such Health Plans.

A copy of the Privacy Notice was mailed to all endowed faculty and staff enrolled in a Health Plan. Faculty and staff will need to provide a Release of Protected Health Information to Aetna, Ameritas, HealthNow or ValueOptions if a spouse or other family member needs to receive sensitive Health Plan information on the employee.
