Programs are facilitated by the Office of Workforce Diversity and Inclusion (WDI) unless otherwise noted.

Adopting a New Pet: Strategies for Ensuring a Good Fit - Register Here

This workshop will discuss why you should consider adopting a shelter or rescue animal and how to make the best fit for your family.
Presenter: Kelley Bollen, MS, CABC. Kelley is the Director of Behavior Programs for Maddie's Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. In this role she teaches veterinary residents and veterinary students about behavior and consults with area animal shelters about the importance of behavioral health for their animals.

The Internet is filled with an enormous array of new and interesting services that offer convenience, social networking opportunities and broad access to information. Unfortunately, some of these services can also lead to on-line stalking, abuse, threats to privacy, identity theft and access to things not appropriate for some age groups. All too often, our children understand more about these services and make broader use of them without the benefit of adult supervision and guidance. This discussion will introduce parents to some of the threats facing children while on-line and offer some practical steps parents can consider to help keep their children safe. Parents of Children with Special Needs Network - Register Here
- November 10, 12-1 p.m., B12 Day Hall. Topic: The Family Resource Network is a non-profit agency that serves individuals with special needs and their families. Come to learn more about their services.
- Future dates (all from 12-1p.m. in B12 Day Hall): December 8, February 9, March 9, April 13, May 11
This network is geared for those that are raising children, grandchildren, or other loved ones with special needs. Participants are welcome to share their experiences, successes, and challenges, and provide input on the frequency and structure of future meetings. All types of special needs concerns are welcome (ie physical, behavioral, emotional, mental, etc.).
Caregiver Support & Education Network - Register Here
Are you providing care for an adult family member, spouse, or friend? If so, you are invited to attend meetings of the Caregiver Support & Education Network. Participants are welcome to attend when their schedule allows. The facilitators will share strategies, tools, and resources for coping with stress, caregiver guilt, and burnout as well as information on local/national resources that may assist you.
- November 19, 12-1 p.m., 354 Duffield Hall. Topic: Financial and Legal Concerns for Elders. This topic, presented by Joy Blumkin, attorney with Blumkin, Finlay & Bixler LLP, will address common legal and financial concerns of the elderly and their caregivers such as planning for the expense of long-term care and planning for incapacity (advance directives, guardianship, trusts).

You will be offered tools to add to your tool kit as you care for your elders, and will also cover the benefits of massage for you as the caregiver.
